Argentiera is a town as well as a hamlet (frazione is the Italian version of a hamlet) in the commune of Sassari. Sassari in turn is located in the Sardinia islands of Italy. Situated near the Sardinian Sea, Argentiera is located at an elevation of 30 meters. Often dubbed as the ghost town, Argentiera offers a nice scope for an exciting travelling experience. The city is now a UNESCO preserved site apart from being included in Geological-Mining Park of Sardinia.

History
The town was known for mining since the historic times dating back to the Roman Empire. The 1940s was the most glorious period of Argentiera in terms of mining. The mines were reopened in the 19th century by a Belgian company but post World War 2 mining declined and mines were closed in 1963. The city offers an exciting leaf of industrial archaeology as the Argentiera village presently stands abandoned.
