City Chitwan in Nepal Famous for the National Park and World Heritage Site

Royal Chitwan National Park is one of the most protected forest zones in Nepal and is located on the border with India. Several endangered species are found in the park like royal Bengal tigers, leopard, one horned rhinoceros, wild bison, sloth bear, and elephants. Chitwan city is known as Chitwan National Park. With an area of 932 square kilometres, it is one of the world heritage sites.

Accommodation Preferences
While traditional budget hotels, youth hostels, or bed and breakfast domes are not available here, no less than seven world class resorts are run by the park concessionaire. All these are located inside the park. However many hotels, guest houses and resorts are located outside the park and provides options for better prices and services for visitors.

History
Name of Chitwan has originated from the world Chituwa Ban which means leopard forest. Established in 1973, the park became world heritage site in 1984. Chitrawan", meaning "picturesque wilderness", is believed to be the root word of Chitwan. History of Chitwan is characterized by its religious divinity as well as its being a prime hunting ground. Under the Khas Kingdom in 14th century, it bloomed under Mukunda Sen I during the 17th century. Chitwan merged with Nepal in 1834. Remaining under the Rana regime from 1903 to 2007 and now in Democratic Nepal, it has been one of the prime tourist spots in the country.

For all those who enjoy natural beauty, this place is a perfect destination. One can enjoy the Royal Chitwan National park containing wide range of flora and fauna. The land has too much to offer i.e. sub-tropical jungles, hilly areas, elephant grasslands and flood plains.

An ideal evening is the one with a boat ride on the river or visiting the Lamital and Devital lakes with migratory birds. Bikram Baba is a Hindu religious site attracting numerous tourists round the year. The commercial hub, Sauraha is also worth visiting. The crocodile farm, the elephant breeding centre and the Gharial breeding centre are some of the unique places to visit for those who are in love with animal life.

Getting Around
Getting around in Chitwan is an experience unique to forest travels. While the visitors can reach there from Kathmandu in motor vehicle, moving inside is best experience on elephant ride. Trekking is another way of getting around in the National park. Several stables are operated by the park authorities. Guides are also available for moving around the park and for excursion. Another way is trip by boat down the Narayani or Rapti rivers.

Entertainment
Royal Chitwan National park is the third most popular destination in entire Nepal. Vast range of flora and fauna are amazing. Sub-tropical jungles, elephant grasslands, and excellent landscape are the best ways of entertainment for nature lovers. Animal lovers will love the various species of birds and insects in the jungle. Elephant safaries, canoe moving, jungle trekking are very popular. Traditional dance and songs are performed in resorts and lodgings.

Nepalese, Tharu, and English are the main languages used in Chitwan area.
