City of De Kelders in South Africa – Home to Whales
City De Kelders in South Africa is located around 5 km to the north of Gansbaai. It is around 25 minutes drive from Hermanus. Famous for its seafood and basically a fishing village, it has continued to remain immune from the tourist influx unlike other parts of South Africa, an affluent economy.
Accommodation
De Kelder has something to offer in form of accommodation for every visitor. While the affluent will certainly like the luxury hotels with all amenities including gym and spa and massages, people looking for financial savings would opt for excellent
budget hotels. In addition, there are guest houses, resorts, villa houses, and affordable apartment rental and bread & breakfast joints for the visitors. A couple of good
hostels are also there though getting accommodation could be a little difficult due to their huge demands.
Brief Background
Located on the shores of the Walker Bay, De Kelders is also renowned as the home of the Southern Right Whale. Due to its rocky inlets, the whales return year after year to mate and calve during July- November. The city is named De Kelders deriving its name from the Dutch version of cellars.
