History
Moari settlements dating back to 1100AD were considered as the earliest inhabitants of this city. During this period several fortified settlements evolved in about 1650, which later on became the present day city of Dunedin. Later on settlements like Waitaha followed by Kāti Mamoe and Kai Tahu reigned over this region. Europeans set foot on this city with the arrival of Captian James Cook to set up a permanent base in 1831.
