City Hai Phong – The Commercial Hub of Vietnam

The third largest city and a major industrial centre of Vietnam, Hai Phong has a distinguished presence amid Red River. An abode of countless French colonial houses, and just hundred kilometers away from Hanoi, Hai Phong serves as a prime seaport of North Vietnam.  The second most popular name of Hai Phong is “City of Flame Flowers” owing to its streets bordered by the trees of flame flowers.

History
The city of Hai Phong was created by Le Chan, the then female head of Vietnamese War, in 43 AD. Also, the city emerged as a successful naval base when French invaded Vietnam. Hai Phong was the first military base of French army during the Independence Revolution of Vietnam after the World War II. Being the primary port city, it bore the brunt of Vietnam War heavily as it became the main target of US bombing. Post Vietnam War, it was restored, making Hai Phong a leading commercial centre of Vietnam.

The main places of tourist interest are Cat Ba National Park in Cat Ba Island, Bach Dang, Children Amusement Park, City Exhibition and Trade Centre, Elephant Mountain and People's Theatre Lake. Travelers willing to witness the French Architecture can visit Catholic Cathedral and Hai Phong Post Office. The sporting spirits can take a round of the Football Stadium.
