City Holbox Island – Accompany the Huge Number of Birds and Animals
Holbox Island is a Mexican city, located to the northwest of Cancun. Separated from the mainland of
Mexico by a shallow lagoon, the place is inhabited by flamingos, pelicans and variety of other creatures and thus, is one of the best places in the country to tour.
History
Holbox Island doesn’t have anything to share in terms of history. The word ‘Holbox’ means Black Hole in Mayan language. Mayas ruled the island until the mid of 19th century. Like many of the places in Mexico, the island was invaded by Spanish warriors, who were quite impressed by the natural beauty of the place. Also, it was considered as the refuge venue for the sea pirates in the 16th century. The place became popular when more and more tourists started exploring the unspoiled and peaceful beauty of the place. The island is just 42 km long and is still away from massive tourism. This is the reason that it is away form the hustle bustle of the Mexican cities.

Isla Pajaros is the popular bird island located near the Holbox Island in Mexico. Most of the bird species are on the verge of extinction. Flamingos, pelicans and dicks, along with other species live in their natural habitats. One can also find flora in the form of cactus and mangrove.
Yalahao Lagoon is another great place near Holbox Island. It acts as a fresh water resource for people living on the island. Yalahao spring is visited by the tourists on a trip to the island. Swimming is one activity, tourists love to participate in. Isla Pasion is another island near Holbox and is well-known for offering a relaxing environment through its beaches and tropical climate.
Getting Around
One day tours and air bus facilities are available to reach the island. Ferries offer good rides to move from Holbox to various places of interest, a good
guide is to wear comfortable shoes as walking around is a must.

Bird watching is definitely one of the most appreciated entertainment activities in the City of Holbox Island. Pink flamingos, egrets, white pelicans, terns, cormorants and other exotic bird species can be watched for long hours at beaches and other venues. Sunset scenes can take you to another world. One can also enjoy shell collecting as another wonderful activity on the island. One would also not like to miss fishing and diving to enjoy the great deal of entertainment. The whale shark tours are conducted only on this island of Mexico during summer season and are worth participating in.
