City Johor Bahru in Malaysia – The Jewel of Malaysia

The capital city of Johor in Sothern Malaysia is a popular tourist destination; thanks to its proximity to Singapore. Located at a walking distance from Singapore, half of its tourist population arrives through the road and bridge links from Singapore. Johar Boru is one of the most thickly populated cities in Malaysia and its population growth is one of the highest in the whole of Southeast Asia.

There are many hotels right at the city centre, which are also placed near some of the top tourist attractions of the city. History
Johor Bahru founded in 1855 became a vibrant city, which attracted migrant Chinese workers. The Japanese army invaded this city in 1942. Shortly after the war ended, this city saw many nationalistic uprisings and Johor Bahru was officially granted recognition as a city on 1 January 1994.

Popular Places
There are many tourist attractions in this city including palaces and museums. The sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque, which flaunts a medley of Moorish and Victorian architecture is a must see. However, non Muslims are not permitted to enter the mosque building.  The royal museum has an impressive collection of artefacts, paintings, pottery and glass wares.

Getting Around
The city is crowded and congested and the travel guide for a hassle free travel recommends Taxis as the most popular options to move around the city,. Negotiate the fares in advance as they do not follow metered fares. Buses are not very frequent and could be extremely crowded. Renting a car is also a popular option as the fuel prices are very cheap in this city. Exploring the city on foot might not be a good option as there are no proper walkways or sign boards.

Places of Entertainment
Johor Bahru has a lively night life and has many night clubs, bars, karaoke clubs and lounges all along the streets. The pubs are extremely popular among the tourist for their impressive bar menu and the stunning Chinese bartenders.
