Mahebourg is a beautiful and peaceful part of Mauritius, located on the south-eastern coast of the island. It is better known as the capital of Grand Port District and is also a centre of local trade in the country. History

Under the French control, the city prospered from the beginning of the 19th century. But as the French gave preference to Port Louis as their main port in the country, the city lost its significance. Today, Mahebourg represents a preferred tourist area of the country.

The most popular place of Mahebourg is the Naval Museum that exhibits the memories of the French Empire, along with the mock-ups of ancillary used in the battle. The city also has the longest bridge of the country, constructed over La Chaux River. The Airgettes Bird Sanctuary can be visited to view a great collection of the local flora and fauna.
