History

Popular Places
The most popular attraction in this city is the Manual Antonio national park that was set up in 1972, to ensure the protection of the fragile ecosystem and the unique wild life from the pangs of mass tourism. Spread over an area of 682.7 Hectares in size it includes beaches, and mountains. Home to various unique animals including Squirrel monkeys, sloths and iguanas among others it is a great option for both adrenalin livers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Fincas Naturales is another essential stopover. An erstwhile plantation, which is reforested, is home to monkeys and other wild life. Spreading over 30 acres of area is a great spot for bird watching. Guided tours are available. There is a butterfly botanical garden also where you can explore the spectacular world of these winged beauties.
Getting Around
Manuel Antonio can be reached only from Quepos. Buses or car rentals are convenient options to move around this small city. Buses ply up and down the city every 30 minutes and the last bus depart at 7.30 at night, a good
guide is to have some change handy to pay your fares.

Playa Espadilla beach is a tree lined sandy stretch that extends to more than a mile. It is a safe and spectacular beach that is popular with surfers, strollers and swimmers. Teeming with marine life like sharks and eels, this beach along the Pacific is a huge hit among divers as well. The beach front has many interesting shops that sell local knick knacks like beads, trinkets and jewellery.
The city has many restaurants and pubs where you could enjoy some quality time in the company of your pals. Check out the food joint of Aqua Azul, where fresh fish delicacies including mahi mahi and seabass served in coconut gravy and margaritas are the top charters.
