About NADI

Nadi – The Best Of Both The Worlds Of Mountains And The Sea

Nadi, touted as the doorway into Fiji, has enchanting beaches and resorts that serve as excellent stopover options. The low tide beach in Nadi is ideal for swimming and sunbathing while the balmy tropical climate is ideal for all types of outdoor pursuits.

History:
The European explorers and Christian missionaries who visited Fiji in the 17th century left a considerable influence in the religion and culture of Fiji. In 1874, Fiji was converted into a British colony. Though the country became an independent island nation in 1970, a couple of military coups in 1987 slacked the pace of development. A democratic Government was installed in 2001, which brought in the much needed stability to this tiny Pacific island. In 2006 the latest military coup took place.

Popular Places:
Fiji offers the irresistible combo of the mighty mountains and the enchanting Pacific Ocean, which surrounds Fiji on all four sides. Nadi is a district in the Fijian province of Ba and has to its credit a number of beaches and seaside resorts, which makes it a popular tourist destination.

The Subar Maniya temple in Nadi, one of the largest temples in the world, attracts scores of devotees from far and wide. Considered one of the most prominent landmarks of this city, this temple was built according to the traditional Dravidian temple architecture styles of India. Nadi has some beaches including the Denerau beach and the Wailoaloa Beach, where you can indulge in all your favorite beach time activities. At sundown Nadi’s night life unveils in its many bars and clubs where the night owls can enjoy a drink or two and dance all night or mingle with the friendly local folks. Boat Cruise and helicopter sightseeing are some of the other activities in Nadi.

Getting around:
Buses and car hire are the popular means of transport, if you intend to use the buses a good guide is to have the correct fare ready to pay for your ticket.

Places of Entertainment:
Apart from the beaches, temples and the night life, Nadi has many historical places of interest as well. The Momi Battery Historic Park, an erstwhile gun battery during the turbulent times of World War II is a popular tourist attraction. Nestled amidst a sprawling sugar cane filed, this battery site overlooking the strategic Navula Passage played a significant surveillance role in the war days. Shopping is very much on cards while in Nadi as it has a number of exciting souvenir shops, duty free shops and flea markets, it a shopper’s delight.

Accommodation Options:
There are budget hotels, bed and breakfast, inns, guesthouse, motels, youth hostels, lodgings and hotel resorts in Nadi to cater to the diverse needs and budgets of the tourists.

Currency:
Fijian dollar is the currency of Nadi which is easily available with Banks and with any authorized travel agencies, check the news and internet for the latest exchange rates.
