History:
Oranjestad, the capital city of
Aruba since 1797, got its name after the Dutch royal house of Oranje. The name Oranjestad was conferred to the city in the early nineteenth century. The town was built around Fort Zoutman, soon after it was built in 1796. Initially, the town was known as the town on the Bay of Horses.
