History
Founded in 1689, this city was part of Cubanacan of ancient Indian in the past. The population comprised of just 175 people belonging to two large families in this area. Well known for its colonial type architecture and well preserved monuments.

Santa Clara was the hot seat of Cuban revolution and it was in this city that the guerrillas under the leadership of Che Guevara waged a revolution to topple the Government. The Statue of this revolutionary is an important land mark of this city. There is a museum nearby, which showcases the life and struggles of Che Guevara including the battle of Santa Clara. Church of San Juan Bautista is well known for the architectural marvels and enchanting mahogany ceilings.
The natural springs of Elguea, is another popular tourist attraction.
