About TURIN

Turin – Beautiful Villas, Italian Alps and beautiful Natural Location

Turin is one of the modern Italian cities, located in the Piedmont region of the country. Surrounded by the Alpine arch, the city is located on the bank of River Po. A number of titles have been bestowed upon Turin, including ‘the Capital of the Alps’, ‘the Automobile Capital of Italy’, ‘the city with the most beautiful natural location’ and so on.

History:
Romans were the first inhabitants of the city of Turin during the first century BC. It was in the Middle Ages that Roman Empire lost its significance and hence, the city was overpowered by the Lombards. The Franks of Charlemagne, the Arudinic Dynasty and the Counts of Savoy were other in habitants, who ruled the city till 15th century. Turin was declared as the capital of Duchy of Savoy in 1563. In the start of 18th century, the city was influenced by French rulers. It was in the middle of 19th century that the city was declared as the capital of United Italy.

The industrial development of the city began after World War I, though the real development was brought after World War II.

Popular Places:
Mole Antonelliana is the well-known cinema museum of European continent, located in Turin. With a 167.5 m high tower, the museum is accepted as the tallest one in the world. If you want to view the Roman influence over the city, you can consider visiting the Palatine Towers that were used as medium of access to the city.

The National Cinema Museum is the most exciting place to explore the history of cinema in the form of posters, video installations and the archaeology of cinema. Museo dell'Automobile offers the famous collection of vehicles, especially the red sports cars. The Egyptian Museum can be visited to explore a number of Egyptian artefacts. Valentino Park is another interesting tourist destination that also accommodates the Valentino Castle.

Castello della Venaria Reale and Castello di Rivoli are the two famous museums in the city. The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and the Cathedral of Superga are other places of significant importance for the tourists. Other places of interest include the Royal palace of Turin, the Church of Superga and Palazzo Madama.
