City Tombeau-Bay in Mauritius – A Paradise to Explore
Tombeau-Bay or Baie du Tombeau is a coastal village, the second largest in the northern Mauritius. Located on the mouth of Rivière du Tombeau, this place is better defined as the tropical paradise of Mauritius, capable of attracting tourists in large numbers.

History
Baie du Tombeau gets its name from the incident when a Dutch governor named Pieter Both died and his ship was wrecked off the coast in the beginning of the 17th century. The name actually translates to “Tomb Bay”, as it accommodates the governor’s tomb. Tombeau-Bay was fortified by the French in order to prevent invaders to reach Port Louis, the present day capital of Mauritius located 6 km from the city. The glorious history of the city states that it has saved the island from being captured by the British twice in the 18th century. The city was also involved in the World War II, when it was used to accommodate soldier barracks and a bunker. Also, the city was used as a shelter to hydroplanes during the war.

Le Goulet located only few km north of the village is known for its migratory bird sanctuary, beautiful beaches and some great picnic spots. Port Louis is also located near the city and is also a wonderful place to enjoy.
